Fields First To Three Wins At Hummingbird

Reynoldsville- After a two week hiatus, racing resumed for the third race of the 2026 season at Hummingbird Speedway on Saturday night. The #88 of Josh Fields led from green to checkered on his way to notching his third straight victory in the Pure Stocks to open the season. Dating back to last season, the win was his fourth straight as he won the final race of 2025. The Srock Contracting Super Late Models and Semi Late Models each competed for some extra money for positions 2nd through 6th courtesy of Away From Home Resort putting up an additional $100 each to those positions in both divisions for a grand total of $1,000. The #36 of Paul Kot captured his second straight checkered flag in the Super Late feature while the #3xAA of Doug Surra took his first trip to Dunlap Lawn & Garden Victory Lane this season in the Semi Lates. Other feature winners on the night included: the #66 of Andrew Gordon in the Pro Stocks, the #44B of Bruce Long in the Four-Cylinders, and the #818 of Bob Connor in the Economods. Connor made it two wins in a row, while Gordon and Long were victorious for the first time this season. The win for Long was his first career win at Hummingbird.
The Pro Stocks kicked off the feature racing action with Nathan Brady and Dennis Curry Jr. making up the front row for their 20-lap main. Brady got out to lead on the start and led lap 1 as Rich Howell was able to work his way ahead of Curry Jr. for second. A caution flag was displayed later that lap for a spin on the frontstretch. On the restart, it was Brady leading the way over Howell and Curry Jr. On lap 2, newcomer Andrew Gordon, who restarted 5th, made a three-wide move plus another pass to move himself into a runner-up position behind Brady. Also on that lap, Curry Jr. was able to work his way back around Howell to move into the third position. The following lap Gordon was able to use the high line to his advantage to power past Brady to take the race lead as newcomer Bruce Hartzfeld made the pass on Curry Jr. to the inside to move into the third spot just before another caution for a spin in turns 3 and 4. On lap 4 following the restart, Hartzfeld took a look to the inside of Brady and made the pass for second. Gordon and Hartzfeld began to check out on the field as the race neared halfway. At the cross-flags on lap 10, it was Gordon still leading the way over Hartzfeld and Brady. Gordon and Hartzfeld battled each other hard for the lead as they worked their way through lapped traffic. The top 3 remained as-is over the next few laps through an onslaught of caution flags. The race was deemed official after a final caution flag on lap 13 due to the time limit being reached. Gordon was declared the winner over Hartzfeld, Brady, Curry Jr., and Howell. The win was Gordon's 13th career Pro Stock triumph at Hummingbird. Gordon, Howell, and Curry Jr. won the heat races.
Clay Ruffo and Paul Kot led the Srock Contracting Super Late Models into the 1/3-mile bullring for their 25-lap feature. Ruffo jumped out to the early lead on the start, but the momentum on the highside allowed Kot to make the pass in turns 3 and 4 to lead the opening lap over Ruffo and Kenny Schaffer. The opening 6 laps of the race were completed before the first and only caution flag of the race. On the restart, it was Kot leading the way over Ruffo and Schaffer. On lap 7, one lap after the restart, Schaffer was able to use the high line to power past Ruffo for the second spot behind Kot. Kot began to check out on the field a bit as the race neared halfway. At the halfway point on lap 13, Kot continued to lead the way over Schaffer and Ruffo. The top 3 remained unchanged as the race went caution-free the rest of the way enroute to Kot taking the checkers by about 3.3 seconds over Schaffer, Ruffo, Cody Rogers, Denny Fenton, Tyler Wyant, and Orvis Newcome lll. The win was Kot's 41st career win in a Late Model at the Bird. Kot won the lone heat race.
The Semi Late Models were next to the track for their 20-lap feature race. Nick Loffredo, visiting for the first time this year, and Doug Surra led the field to the green flag. Surra pulled out to the lead on the initial start and led lap 1 over Loffredo and B.J. Hudson. Only the first lap was completed before the first caution of the race for a spin on the frontstretch. On the restart, it was Surra out front as Hudson challenged Loffredo for second. On lap 2, Hudson was able to complete the pass on Loffredo on the highside to move into the second spot. One lap later, Loffredo got loose coming out of turn 4 and spun out, bringing out the caution flag and relinquishing the third position to Kyle Shannon for the restart. Following the restart, it was Surra still leading the way over Hudson and Shannon for the next 6 laps until the final caution flag of the race was displayed for a spin in turns 1 and 2. On the final restart of the race, Surra led the way over Hudson and Shannon. Hudson mounted a late-race charge in the closing laps, but it was not enough as Surra held on by a little over a half second to take his first trip to Dunlap Lawn & Garden Victory Lane this season. The win was Surra's 34th in a Semi Late Model at the Speedway, leading all drivers. Hudson, Shannon, Tyler Rougeux, and Loffredo rounded out the top 5. Loffredo and Surra won the heat races.
Bruce Long and newcomer Hunter Flook led the Four-Cylinders trackside for their 15-lap feature event. Long got out to the lead on the start and led the opening lap over Flook and Shawn Hadden. On lap 2, Allen Robison was able to use the low line to his advantage to make the pass on Hadden for the third position. Long began to extend his lead over the field as the laps began to tick away. At halfway on lap 8, it was still Long leading the way over Flook and Allen Robison. The race stayed green for another lap or two before a caution for a slow car on the backstretch set up the first and ultimately only restart of the race. On the restart, it was Long pacing the field over Flook and Robison. With just a couple of laps remaining on lap 13, Allen Robison began to get the highside working and made the pass to the outside of Flook for second. On lap 14, Scott Robison followed suit and also made the pass on Flook to the outside to move into the third spot behind the leaders. Allen Robison then made a late race charge over the course of the last couple of laps, but it was not enough as Long held on by 0.35 seconds to pick up his first Hummingbird Speedway checkered flag. Allen Robison, Scott Robison, Flook, and Hadden completed the top 5. Flook and Long won the heat races.
The Economods took to the track next with newcomer Dennis Lunger Jr. and Bob Connor on the front row for their 15-lapper. Lunger Jr. jumped out to the lead on the start and led lap 1 over Connor and Bob McMillen. A couple of laps later, on lap 3, Connor was able to edge ahead to the inside of Lunger Jr. at the line to take the race lead. The race remained under green flag conditions all the way until the halfway mark on lap 8 with the top 3 running close enough that you could throw a blanket over them. On what was ultimately the lone restart of the race, it was Connor out front over Lunger Jr. and McMillen. Lunger Jr. kept Connor honest throughout the entirety of the second half of the race, but it did not phase Connor as he would lead 13 of the 15 laps on his way to winning his second straight. The win was also his second career in an Economod at the track. Connor was followed by: Lunger Jr., McMillen, Dalton Gustafson, and Ed Robley. Lunger Jr. and Connor won the heat races.
Ashley Kilhoffer and Josh Fields led the Pure Stocks to the green flag for their 15-lap main to conclude the evening. Fields pulled out to the lead on the initial start and led the opening lap as Dustin Challingsworth was putting the pressure on Kilhoffer for the second spot. On lap 2, Challingsworth was able to complete the pass to the inside of Kilhoffer to move into second behind Fields. Fields began to check out on Challingsworth, Kilhoffer, and the rest of the field as the race neared halfway. At the cross-flags displayed by Flagman Earl Jackson on lap 8, it was Fields out front by a healthy margin over Challingsworth and Kilhoffer. The race stayed green for another 3 laps before a caution for a wreck in turn 2 brought about the lone restart of the race. On the restart, the top 3 were Fields, Challingsworth, and Kilhoffer. On lap 13, with just a couple of laps remaining, Cody Cassler looked to the inside of Kilhoffer and made the pass to move into a podium position in third. No one had anything for Fields all race long as he cruised to his third straight win this season and fourth straight if you add in the last race of 2025. The win for Fields was his 43rd career win in a Pure Stock at Hummingbird. Challingsworth, Cassler, Andy Frey, and Kilhoffer rounded out the top 5. Fields and Kilhoffer won the heat races.
Speedway Notes: 66 cars were in the pit area for the third night of the 2026 racing season. That breaks down to: 16 Pro Stocks, 7 Super Late Models, 8 Semi Late Models, 13 Four-Cylinders, 11 Economods, and 11 Pure Stocks. We will be back in action this coming Saturday, August 8th, with Fan Appreciation Night headlining the evening with all six regular divisions on the card. Fans will be permitted on the track at intermission to meet and greet with their favorite drivers as well as getting pictures with them and collecting autographs, candy, and other goodies along the way. Looking ahead, the inaugural Louie and Ina Caltagarone Memorial Penn Ohio Pro Stock Touring Series event will take place on August 22nd. The Ken Schaffer Excavating Kids Club gets underway every Saturday night at 6pm by the pit gate entrance. It is a great place to take your kids to do some fun kids club activities prior to racing getting started.
